Happy New Year!!

Here we are... New year's Eve. It is hard to believe that this year is over. I know for me, there have been a lot of positive changes this year.. This time last year I was making goals that i wasn't sure that i would be able to keep...but for the first time I am happy to say each and every one of them have been accomplished. I am not in the same place in my life that I was this time last year. I owe it all to God. Without his guidance I would have never made it this far.

As we move forward to 2014, making resolutions and setting goals, keep in mind that the one thing you can never get back after it is gone is time. Keep those you love close and don't let life get so busy that you don't get that much needed time with them. Tell them daily you love them. Make sure they know. It is the simple things in life that mean the most. God bless you all!! Thank you for your continued support over the years. And HAPPY 2014!!!!!!

Changing the website

Hey guys,

I have not been online in a while and decided to let you all know that the website that previously had all of those photos on it is now gone. I will no longer be hosting massive amounts of photos online. From now on, only the ones that I pick will be presented here... on my blog. You will still be able to use the same link www.capturedmemoriesbyjamie.com and it will bring you here. I appreciate each and every one of you that have stuck with me over the years. It is time to make a change in the way that I do business.

Thank you for your continued support,

Jamie

Catching up!!

So it has come to my attention that i have been slacking on my blogging...  The weather here has been quite yucky and to be honest, I just haven't felt much like doing anything. I have recently taken some old pictures and gave them a makeover. Below are a few shots that I turned into HDR shots. What is neat about them is..... They all originated from a single shot. I manually changed exposures in Photoshop, and then converted to HDR. Kinda nifty!!

Just Ducky :)

Last weekend was beautiful here. We has a weekend that actually felt like Spring for a change. My daughter and I decided to go hand out at Lake Julian and enjoy the sunshine. While there I took some photos of the ducks that were out. Man they were EVERYWHERE! All photos were done in HDR of course!

The Pink Moon

So I kept hearing about this "Pink Moon" and wondered to myself... what exactly is that? As I was driving home I saw the big beautiful moon, and while having to pull over to stop and look at its beauty, I did notice it wasn't exactly pink. So this morning I looked online to see what made it "pink". Evidently it was just the first full moon of Spring, and gets its name from pink flowers that are the first flowers of Spring.

“This name came from the herb moss pink, or wild ground phlox, which is one of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring,” writes the Farmers’ Almanac.

Even though the moon is still yellow, i decided to try to take a few shots of it. I will post a few below. I couldn't quite figure out how to keep the glow from around the moon from showing up in the pictures. And I should have had a better zoom, but sometimes you have to adapt to what you have on hand.

This one above was taken with a long exposure on a tripod.

The picture above was taken at my shortest exposure with a tripod.

This one I cheated... I took this before the moon went down the next morning and it was hand held :)

Rainy day in the view...

Well... There isn't much else to do on this yucky, rainy day except play. So here I am... sitting at the computer doing what I do. This is a picture of a bus that i randomly took one day. It sits outside of a Church here in Fairview. With a little Photoshop magic, I think it turned out quite nice :)

Sunset in the Mountains :)

One of my favorite things about the mountains is the beautiful sunsets. Yes.... I am obsessed with them. There is no better way to end the day than to watch the light show from God of the sun setting behind a mountain, and enjoying the fresh cool breeze on your face. The phpoto below was this past Tuesday at Carrier Park.

Playing in the dark...

Tonight I decided to play with long exposures in the dark. I had been missing a part of my tripod, and then stumbled across it as I was cleaning the house. Below are a couple shots that turned out pretty good.

This one is from the fire that we had going in the back yard. I tried out the long exposures on the hot coals just before it went out.

This is a very long exposure of the stars at about 9:30 pm. I would at some point like to try to leave the shutter open for a few minutes and see what happens...

Great day for a hike!!

Spring FINALLY sprung!! I wasn't sure that it would ever warm up here in the mountains, but today was absolutely beautiful. Sunshine therapy was definitely what we needed, so a few of us went for a short hike. This is from the top of the covered bridge at DuPont. If you don't have a whole day to spend in the woods, DuPont is perfect! It's an easy hike with beautiful views, and some great waterfalls.

The Wright Family

Today was a great day! The weather was finally cooperating, and an outdoor photo shoot was just what I needed! The Wright Family was gathered around, and asked me to come take some photos. I still have a ways to go to get them all edited, but I thought I would go ahead and share a few. The shots below were all done in HDR.

Thank you Robbie and Liz for thinking of me when looking for a photographer!! Check back soon, and I will have all of the photos ready for viewing!

Mom's Best Friend...

Some of you already know about my best friend on Earth, Murphy. Murphy is my 2 1/2 year old dog, who has no clue he is a dog... seriously! I have had Murphy since he was old enough to be without his mom, and he is a perfect fit to our abnormal family. He is a black mixed breed dog, full of personality. Murphy loves to play, hike, garden, and is a big fan of cuddling!

To us, Murphy is definitely one of the family. He is very vocal. He loves to mumble, and is pretty good at telling us what he wants. He will bring you his water bowl if he is thirsty. He will open the food container when he is hungry. He will come get you when he needs to go outside. He puts himself in his crate when it is time for us to leave. He has some not so lovely habits too, such as opening the refrigerator to see what is inside.

During the time we have had Murphy, we have been battling some major skin problems. He scratches non stop, and has bald spots from the waist down. After 2 years of having multiple skin scraping test done to check for mites, changing foods, adding oils to his diet, using all natural drops in his food, changing to all natural homemade cleaners for the house, non stop laundry, many many vet visits, and taking medication after medication... i finally broke down and had an allergy test done on him. I put the allergy test off for so long because it is a very expensive test to have done. Also, the test isn't 100% guaranteed.

I would have never made it through all of the switching without Angie, who owns Best Bites For Pets. Angie has been there to guide me through all of the options that I could try before forking out the money for the allergy tests. I order his food from her, as well as his treats, shampoo, and any thing else doggie related that he needs. She has taught me about ingredients that are bad for dogs, and she has taught me how to clean my house naturally and keep things safe for my little guy. Anyone can order from her. Visit her website at Best Bites for Pets and tell her Murphy sent ya!

It is extremely hard to watch your dog scratch all the time, and bite at himself. He was miserable, and he looked terrible. It got to a point where I started to avoid taking him in public. People would stop and stare, or point. Some asked what was wrong with him, and many asked me why I didn't just have him put down after all this time. Really? Would you have a family member put to sleep because they had skin issues? Not me... I will do what ever it takes to get him back to a healthy, happy boy.

Dr. Lloyd, Dr. Hutsell, and all of their staff at Fairview Animal Hospital have really been fantastic. We are there quite often. Even when Murphy isn't sick we stop by just to visit and weigh in. They have really worked with me during all of this. Last week I finally took him in for the tests. It didn't take too long. Dr. Lloyd drew some blood and tested his thyroid first, just in case that was the problem. That test came back normal, so they sent the blood off for full allergy screening. Two days later, I got the call with the results. Finally, after all this time... I have an answer. The main thing that my dog is allergic to is...... dust. There are some other mild allergies to pinto beans, milk, a fungus, and Golden Rod, but the highest sensitivity is dust and storage mites.

So... how do you get rid of dust? You can't unfortunately, but if anyone does know the secret to doing so... PLEASE SHARE!! We are doing some simple things here at the house such as switching the filters in the heat pump to hypoallergenic, washing curtains and bedding weekly, shampooing carpets weekly, and placing everything stored in closets into plastic containers. We also have to start giving Murphy allergy shots. The company that did the test, is currently formulating a shot to counteract all of the items that he is allergic to. Those are not so cheap... so I really hope this helps pretty fast. There is no guarantee that he will be normal again. I have taken before pictures of him, and we should start giving him the shots pretty soon. I will post a new blog in the next couple months with updates, and progressive photos. Lets hope this works!!!!!

Camo Cupcakes

Dallas asked for Camo Cupcakes for her birthday.... So..... Camo Cupcakes is what she is getting!!! She is a bit obsessed with camo, and zebra print so we tried to give her both. The cupcakes are a while cake mix dyed brown and 3 colors of green. The icing is Cream Cheese Icing, and has been painted with the same colors as the cake. For her cupcake liners, she chose black and pink zebra print. Is that weird? Nah... that's just my Dallas :)

Spring Break?

This week is Spring Break.... and guess what we woke up to! You got it.... Snow! There isn't too much here where we live, but a friend of mine got 3 inches on her side of town. We just got enough here to make it a little tricky out there this morning. Luckily... I get to stay in my PJ's and sip my coffee instead of venturing out. Below is a shot of the back yard.

JEEP!!!!

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am CRAZY about a Jeep. I seen this one yesterday in Hot Springs, and I am sure I drove Carrie and Jon crazy by asking if I could go take a picture of it... over... and over... and over again. I can't help myself! The poor Jeep has seen better days... but I still wanted to shoot it :)

Lou Lou's Gettin Hitched!!!

My little sister Carrie Parker, AKA Lou Lou, is gettin hitched!!! I am extremely happy for her and I know that there is a great future ahead for her and Jon. Today we decided to ride down to Hot Springs for their "Save The Date" photo shoot. I am excited to say that the photos turned out GREAT!!!! Lou Lou is so cute (I think she gets that from her older sister lol). Unfortunately, I can't post them just yet because she hasn't even seen them. Plus... we can't just go spoiling the fun of getting the save the date... now can we? I will however give a sneak preview below. The shot you are about to see, I chose to do in HDR. I had to... The views from the location they chose were way too beautiful to resist! Check back soon for the rest of the photos :)

March Sunset!

Did anyone else catch that amazing sunset tonight? This is the view from my front porch. Luckily, I just happened to look out the window at the perfect moment. And of course the good ol' Canon was close enough to help me get this shot.

John The Turtle

These photos were taken yesterday at Carrier Park during a picnic with some friends. The cute little turtle is almost 9 months old and crawling all over the place. He is not a big fan of changing clothes for his photo shoots, so we do several small ones to make him a happy lil man. This is the second attempt in the turtle suit, and today he decided to cooperate :)

HDR :)

HDR has become my new favorite style of photo. Can anyone guess where this was taken?

What exactly does HDR mean? If you think HDR stands for High Definition Resolution… that would be a good assumption. However, in photography, HDR stands for High Dynamic Range
